Brightside Privacy Policy

Privacy
policy.

Brightside Dental collects personal and health information in order to provide dental care. This page says what is collected, why, who sees it, and how to get at your own record. It is written to Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

What is collected

  • Identity and contact details: name, date of birth, address, phone, email
  • Health information: dental and medical history, clinical notes, x-rays, photographs, scans and treatment records
  • Insurance and billing information, including CDCP membership where it applies
  • Correspondence with the practice, including appointment messages

Why, and who sees it

To provide and plan dental care, to bill your insurer or the CDCP where you have asked us to, to contact you about appointments and recalls, and to meet the record-keeping obligations of the BC College of Oral Health Professionals.

Inside the practice, access is limited to the people who need it to do their job. Outside it, information goes to your insurer or the CDCP administrator when you ask us to bill them, to a laboratory when your treatment needs one made, and to another clinician when you are referred. It is not sold, and it is not used for advertising.

How long it is kept

Clinical records are retained for at least sixteen years after the last entry, or for a minor, at least sixteen years after they turn nineteen, in line with BC regulatory requirements. Records are then destroyed securely.

Your rights

Requests go to the Privacy Officer at [email protected] or (778) 754-4488, and are answered within thirty days. If you are not satisfied with the response, you can complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

  • Ask to see your record, and get a copy
  • Ask for a correction where something is factually wrong
  • Withdraw consent for a specific use, such as email reminders, without affecting your care
  • Ask who your information has been disclosed to

This website

This site uses Google Tag Manager and CallRail, both operated on the practice's behalf by MediaNV, its marketing agency. Google Tag Manager loads Google Analytics and advertising tags, which set cookies and record pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, and which advertisement or search brought you here.

CallRail replaces the phone number shown on the page depending on how you arrived, so that a call can be attributed to the advertisement or search that prompted it. When you call a CallRail number, the call is routed to the practice and CallRail records the calling number, the time and the duration. Calls may be recorded; you are told at the start of the call if they are.

Neither system is used to identify you as a patient, and neither is connected to your dental record. To opt out, use your browser's Do Not Track or cookie-blocking settings, or call the practice on the number printed on this page — (778) 754-4488 — which is not a tracking number.

There is no form on this site: booking happens by phone or email, so no personal information is collected through the site itself. Server logs held by the hosting provider record standard request data such as IP address and user agent for security and diagnostics.

The site links to Google Maps and to social profiles. Following those links takes you to services with their own privacy policies, which this one does not govern.

Common questions

Asked at the front desk.

Does the Brightside Dental website track visitors?

Yes. The site uses Google Tag Manager and CallRail, operated on the practice's behalf by its marketing agency, to understand which advertisements and searches bring people to the site. Neither is used to identify you as a patient and neither is connected to your dental record.

Why does the phone number on the site sometimes change?

CallRail substitutes a tracking number depending on how you reached the site, so that a call can be attributed to the advertisement or search that prompted it. All of them ring the same front desk. The practice's own line is (778) 754-4488.

How do I get a copy of my dental record?

Ask the Privacy Officer at [email protected] or (778) 754-4488. Requests are answered within thirty days.
