The crown that goes
on the implant.

An implant is the post in the bone. The implant crown is the tooth that goes on top of it, and it is a separate stage with its own appointments and its own fee.

What it is

Implant treatment is two halves.

The surgical half places the post and waits for the bone to integrate with it. The restorative half makes and fits the crown. People often hear one price and assume it covers both, which is why we set out the whole sequence and the whole cost before anything starts rather than in instalments of bad news.

  • You have an implant placed and are ready to restore it
  • An existing implant crown has come loose
  • An implant crown has chipped or fractured
  • You are planning implant treatment and want the full cost
  • Food is packing beside an implant crown
  • The crown looks different in shade from the teeth beside it

What the visit is like

The restorative stage.

  1. Checking integrationThe implant is tested to confirm it has integrated properly before anything is built on it.
  2. Scan or impressionRecorded with the position of the implant, along with shade matching to the teeth either side.
  3. Fitting the crownScrewed or cemented depending on the case, then checked for contacts and bite.
  4. Cleaning instructions that matterImplants do not decay but the gum around them can become inflamed and bone can be lost. How you clean around it is what determines the long-term result.

Cost and coverage

You should never be surprised by a bill.

Every plan arrives with the fee beside each line and the insurance estimate beside that, before you agree to anything. We submit to your plan directly where it allows it, and we are set up for the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

Fees for this are quoted in writing after an exam, per tooth and per surface. Nobody can price it accurately from a website or over the phone.

Common questions

Asked on the phone most weeks.

Why is the crown a separate fee from the implant?
Because it is a separate stage with separate lab work and separate appointments. We quote the whole sequence up front so there is no surprise at the second half.
Can an implant get a cavity?
No, but the gum and bone around it can become inflamed and recede, which is the main way implants are lost. Cleaning around it properly is not optional.
How long does it take from implant to crown?
Usually some months, because the bone needs to integrate with the post before it can carry a load. Your case will have its own timeline and you will get it in writing.

If it is pain, say that -- it changes how the day gets arranged. If it is a checkup for three people, say that too and we will try to put you in one morning.
