Brightside Dr. Christine Haslock

Dr. Christine Haslock, associate dentist at Brightside Dental in West Kelowna
Dr. Christine HaslockAssociate Dentist

Dr. Christine
Haslock.

Associate dentist, UBC-trained twice over, and the one to ask for if the dentist is the part you have been avoiding. She says she has some dental anxiety herself, which is not a line most dentists offer.

Where she trained

A Bachelor of Science in Biology from UBC Okanagan, then a Doctor of Dental Medicine from the Faculty of Dentistry at UBC Vancouver.

Between the two she worked elsewhere in healthcare: research at the BC Cancer Agency, and a stretch as a pharmacy assistant. Both show up in how she talks about medication interactions and about what a diagnosis actually means.

On nervous patients

This is the reason to book with her specifically. Say when you call that the dentist is difficult for you, and the appointment gets arranged differently: longer, slower, and starting with a conversation rather than an instrument.

Sedation is available if it is needed — oral sedation, and IV sedation with a dentist trained for it — but it is not the first thing offered, and plenty of people who thought they needed it turn out not to.

Dr. Christine Haslock I had a little bit of dental anxiety growing up, and I still have a little bit.

Outside the practice

She and her husband spent time in the Kootenays after she graduated, wanting to see what rural practice was like, then came back to the Okanagan to be near family. A baby girl now, and most weekends on a trail or in a coffee shop.
