What it is

Most visits here are short and uneventful.

A checkup is an exam, a look at anything that has changed since last time, and x-rays only when they will actually tell us something. A hygiene visit is scaling and polishing, and a conversation about the two or three spots worth watching. If nothing needs doing, we say so.

What the visit is like

What a first visit looks like.

  1. You sit up and we talk firstBefore anything happens, we go through what brought you in, what you want out of it, and anything that has made dental visits hard before.
  2. Exam and, if useful, x-raysA full look at teeth, gums, bite and soft tissue, including an oral cancer screening. X-rays only where they change what we would do.
  3. The plan, in writingIf anything needs treatment you get it on paper with the fee beside each line and the insurance estimate beside that. You take it home. Nothing is booked because you felt rushed.
  4. Cleaning, same visit where time allowsSay when you book that you would like the cleaning too and we will try to put them together so it is one trip.

You should never be surprised by a bill.

Every plan arrives with the fee beside each line and the insurance estimate beside that, before you agree to anything. We submit to your plan directly where it allows it, and we are set up for the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

Fees for this are quoted in writing after an exam, per tooth and per surface. Nobody can price it accurately from a website or over the phone.

How often should I come in for a checkup?
For most adults every six to nine months works, and some people are fine at twelve. It depends on gum health, how quickly you build tartar, and your history. We will tell you what fits you rather than book everyone the same way.
I have not been to a dentist in years. What happens?
You are in the majority of first visits here. The first appointment is a look and a conversation, and you decide what happens next. It is allowed to be nothing for now. Nobody here does guilt.
Do you take the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
Yes. Bring your CDCP letter or member number to the first visit and the front desk confirms what it covers before anything is booked.
Can my whole family be seen the same morning?
Usually. Ask for a family block when you call and say how many people and their ages. We will tell you on the phone what is possible that week rather than booking three separate trips.
