Veneers change shape
and shade together.

Thin porcelain facings bonded to the front of teeth. They change colour and shape at once, and they involve permanently altering the tooth underneath.

What it is

This is not reversible.

Preparing a tooth for a veneer means removing enamel. Once that is done the tooth will always need a veneer or a crown on it. That is a reasonable trade for the right case and a poor one for a small chip that bonding would fix, which is why we will sometimes talk you out of them.

  • Front teeth are worn, chipped or uneven
  • There are gaps you have always disliked
  • Discolouration does not respond to whitening
  • Old front fillings no longer match
  • You want shape and shade changed together
  • You have been quoted for veneers and want a second view

What the visit is like

How the process runs.

  1. What is actually bothering youOften it is one or two teeth, not eight. Treating fewer teeth is usually the better answer and always the cheaper one.
  2. Shade, shape and a previewPhotographs and, where useful, a mock-up so you see the intended result before anything is prepared.
  3. Preparation and temporariesEnamel reduced, impressions or a scan taken, temporary veneers fitted while the lab works.
  4. Fitting and bondingTried in before bonding so you see them in place. Once bonded they are not easily removed, so this is the point to speak up.

Cost and coverage

You should never be surprised by a bill.

Every plan arrives with the fee beside each line and the insurance estimate beside that, before you agree to anything. We submit to your plan directly where it allows it, and we are set up for the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

Fees for this are quoted in writing after an exam, per tooth and per surface. Nobody can price it accurately from a website or over the phone.

Common questions

Asked on the phone most weeks.

Do veneers ruin your teeth?
They permanently remove enamel, so the tooth will always need covering afterwards. That is the honest trade. For the right case it is worthwhile; for a small chip, bonding leaves the tooth intact and we would suggest that instead.
How long do they last?
Years, with variation depending on your bite, whether you grind and how they are cared for. They can chip or debond. If you grind, a night guard is part of the plan rather than an upsell.
Can I have just one?
Yes, and matching a single veneer to the teeth beside it is genuinely harder than doing several. We will be straight about how close a match is achievable before you commit.

Booking

Say what it is when you call.

If it is pain, say that -- it changes how the day gets arranged. If it is a checkup for three people, say that too and we will try to put you in one morning.
