Whitening changes
enamel only.

Custom trays and professional gel, or in-chair treatment. It lightens natural tooth structure and does nothing at all to crowns, veneers or white fillings.

What it is

The limitation is the important part.

Whitening works on natural enamel. Any crown, veneer or white filling in your smile stays exactly the shade it is. If you have a crowned front tooth, whitening the teeth around it can make the mismatch more obvious rather than less, and that is worth knowing before you start rather than after.

  • Teeth have darkened with coffee, tea or red wine
  • They have yellowed gradually with age
  • You have an event coming up
  • Previous over-the-counter strips did little
  • You want it done before other cosmetic work
  • You are curious what is realistic for your teeth

What the visit is like

How it is done.

  1. A check firstWhitening on top of untreated decay or exposed roots is uncomfortable and sometimes harmful. A quick look avoids that.
  2. Shade recorded honestlySo there is a real before, not a memory. It also tells us whether your starting shade will respond well.
  3. Trays made, or in-chair treatmentCustom trays fit closely and keep the gel off your gums, which is most of the comfort difference against a drugstore kit.
  4. Sensitivity managedSome sensitivity during whitening is common and temporary. We will tell you how to reduce it and when to pause.

Cost and coverage

You should never be surprised by a bill.

Every plan arrives with the fee beside each line and the insurance estimate beside that, before you agree to anything. We submit to your plan directly where it allows it, and we are set up for the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

Fees for this are quoted in writing after an exam, per tooth and per surface. Nobody can price it accurately from a website or over the phone.

Common questions

Asked on the phone most weeks.

Will it work on my crowns or fillings?
No. They stay the shade they are. If you have restorations in your front teeth we will talk about sequencing, because sometimes replacing them after whitening is the sensible order.
How long does it last?
It fades gradually, and how fast depends heavily on coffee, tea, red wine and smoking. Months rather than years for most people, with top-ups being normal. Anyone quoting a fixed duration is guessing.
Is it safe for enamel?
Professionally supervised whitening at appropriate concentrations is well established. The usual side effect is temporary sensitivity. Where you have recession or untreated decay we will deal with that first.

Booking

Say what it is when you call.

If it is pain, say that -- it changes how the day gets arranged. If it is a checkup for three people, say that too and we will try to put you in one morning.
