Leaving them alone is sometimes right.
A wisdom tooth that has come through straight, is cleanable and is not causing trouble can often stay. The case for removal is impaction, recurring infection around a partly erupted tooth, decay that cannot be restored, or damage to the second molar. We will tell you which of those applies, and if none does, we will say that too.
- Pain or swelling at the back of the jaw
- The gum over a partly erupted tooth keeps getting infected
- It is impacted on an x-ray
- Food traps behind the last tooth constantly
- The tooth in front is being damaged
- You cannot clean back there properly

How it is handled.
- Imaging firstAn x-ray or scan showing the roots and their relationship to the nerve. That is what decides whether this is straightforward here or a referral.
- An honest call on who should do itMany come out here. Where roots sit close to the nerve or the tooth is deeply impacted, an oral surgeon is the better choice and we will refer you.
- Freezing, and sedation if you want itLocal alone is enough for many people. Sedation is available and often makes a longer case easier.
- Aftercare in writingSwelling peaks around day two or three, which catches people out. You get what is normal, what is not, and a number to call.
Cost and coverage
You should never be surprised by a bill.
Every plan arrives with the fee beside each line and the insurance estimate beside that, before you agree to anything. We submit to your plan directly where it allows it, and we are set up for the Canadian Dental Care Plan.
Fees for this are quoted in writing after an exam, per tooth and per surface. Nobody can price it accurately from a website or over the phone.
