Brightside Surgical dentistry

Extractions, wisdom teeth
and implants.

Taking a tooth out, wisdom teeth, dental implants and the grafting that sometimes goes with them. Sedation is available for any of it.

What it is

Some of this we do, and some we refer.

The dentists here are general dentists. Straightforward extractions, many wisdom teeth and routine implant cases are done in the building. Where a case is better handled by an oral surgeon we say so and put you in touch with one, rather than taking it on because you are already sitting in the chair.

  • A wisdom tooth is coming in sideways or is impacted
  • A tooth is broken below the gum line
  • There is not enough tooth left to restore
  • You are missing a tooth and want an implant
  • A previous extraction site never filled in properly
  • Crowding is being made worse by wisdom teeth

What the visit is like

How surgical appointments are run.

  1. Imaging and a real conversationThe x-ray or scan that shows what is actually there, then a plain account of what is involved, what recovery looks like, and what could complicate it.
  2. You choose how awake you want to beLocal freezing on its own is enough for most people. Oral or IV sedation is there if it is not, and for longer cases it often makes the day easier.
  3. The appointment itselfLonger than a filling, and quieter than people expect. You can stop at any point.
  4. Written aftercare and a number to callWhat to eat, what to avoid, what is normal and what is not, on paper. If something worries you afterwards, call rather than wait for the next appointment.

Cost and coverage

You should never be surprised by a bill.

Every plan arrives with the fee beside each line and the insurance estimate beside that, before you agree to anything. We submit to your plan directly where it allows it, and we are set up for the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

Fees for this are quoted in writing after an exam, per tooth and per surface. Nobody can price it accurately from a website or over the phone.

Common questions

Asked on the phone most weeks.

Do I have to be put to sleep for wisdom teeth?
No. Many wisdom teeth come out with local freezing alone. Sedation is available if you would rather not be alert, and for more involved cases it is often the easier route.
How long does recovery take?
For a simple extraction most people are comfortable within a few days, with soft food for the first while. Surgical cases take longer. We will give you a realistic range for your case and what would count as a reason to call us.
Do you place implants here?
Routine cases yes, in this building. Where a case involves significant grafting or anatomy better handled by an oral surgeon, we refer you to one. The dentists here are general dentists and will say plainly when something is outside what they take on.

Booking

Say what it is when you call.

If it is pain, say that -- it changes how the day gets arranged. If it is a checkup for three people, say that too and we will try to put you in one morning.
